The men inside were the reason for every training session, every planning meeting, every late night and every challenge encountered along the way. Seeing their participation, openness, emotional engagement and willingness to embrace the experience reaffirmed the purpose of the ministry.
It also highlighted the value of collaboration between volunteers, chaplaincy personnel and correctional staff in creating opportunities for meaningful engagement, encouragement and positive personal reflection, while maintaining focus on the people we are called to serve.
Despite challenges and obstacles, I believe the week achieved something meaningful. Lives were touched, relationships were strengthened and opportunities were created for healing, forgiveness, hope and spiritual growth. Importantly, the course also provided participants with opportunities for personal reflection, positive decision-making and the development of healthier perspectives for the future.
Most importantly, seeds were planted. Some may grow quickly, while others may take years to bear fruit. Yet every conversation, prayer, act of kindness and demonstration of God’s love contributed to that process. We may never fully know the impact of what occurred during the week, but we can trust that God continues to work in the hearts of those we were privileged to serve.
For that reason alone, every effort invested in Kairos Short Course 19 was worthwhile. Yours in Christ.
